UNI: Rhythms of Indigenous Philippines (May 30)

House of Gongs, in partnership with the University of
Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Department of Music, Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the
Arts, and Capitol Modern, has officially finalized its stellar artist lineup for UNI: Rhythms of
Indigenous Philippines.
Taking place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Capitol Modern, Hawaiʻi
State Art Museum this FREE, public concert serves as the grand finale of House of
Gongs’ week-long biennial music camp The performance stands as a powerful
celebration of Filipino Indigenous sound, movement, and contemporary diasporic
expression, perfectly timed to close out Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific
Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month on Oʻahu.
Uni at Ugat Music Camp
"Uni at Ugat Music Camp" derived from Maguindanao and Tagalog terms, “Sounds and Roots”. A 5-day music camp offered to Filipinx/a/o artists looking to write music by embracing Filipino gongs and Indigenous instrumentation into their body of work and community members drawn to learning more about traditional and contemporary Filipino music. It is aimed at providing a unique opportunity to learn Indigenous instruments, chanting and music production methods working with Master artists from the Philippines and Filipinx music industry experts in the diaspora, to encourage music writing inspired by rooted Indigenous Filipino arts.
We will only accept 12-15 PARTICIPANTS for the Music Camp and applicants may go on interviews with the House of Gongs program team.
This Music camp is made possible with the help and support of Zoo Labs, Center for Cultural Innovation, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Music Department (Ethnomusicology Program), Intersection for the Arts and Divine Creative Studio.
